Do attractive people get better grades?
According to a study conducted by the Metropolitan State University of Denver, students considered more attractive got higher grades, but not in online classes. When researchers viewed online classes only, they did not find a significant correlation between looks and grades.
New psychology findings suggest that attractive students earn higher grades in school, but for female students, this beauty premium disappears when classes are taught remotely. The findings were published in the journal Economic Letters.
They found some evidence that teachers report better relationships with the more attractive students, which explains some of the achievement gap.
“Attractive people have an advantage because a lot of the time someone is [considered] approachable based on how they look,” junior Kaila Pulley said. Attractive people have advantages in the social aspect of life because people tend to want to talk to them more.
Teachers may unwittingly reward students exhibiting traditionally female behaviour, such as quietness and neatness, which makes life easier for the teachers, the researchers suggest. Girls are routinely given more generous grades in class than boys with the same academic abilities, according to a new study.

Keep your approach and first conversations light and playful.
- Keep the topics of conversation light. ...
- Don't be afraid to be playful during conversations. ...
- Keep your facial expressions bright and happy.
Researchers have found that women in their late 20s and early 30s are considered more attractive than fresh-faced 18 and 19-year-olds -- and they reach the peak of their beauty at the age of 31.
High school matters
We find that looks operate in ways familiar through many of our personal experiences—the better looking being most popular in the social hierarchy of high school. Being considered good-looking is also associated with better mental health and feelings of belonging among teens.
Physical attractiveness has a positive effect on GPA for both genders, but only when considered alone. When physical attractiveness is considered along with grooming and personality, the positive effect of physical attractiveness on high school GPA turns negative for both genders.
It turns out, being conventionally beautiful has its benefits. According to science, people who are perceived as attractive are more likely to get hired for jobs and seem trustworthy. They are also thought to be healthier and lead a happier life.
Does attractiveness affect success in academia?
The results found that attractive people are perceived to be more intelligent and conscientious, and to have a better academic performance.
